In 2020, when toilet paper shortages affected communities across America, Hawaii faced even greater challenges due to its geographic location and dependence on imported goods.

Recognizing the importance of reliable access to everyday essentials, Abide Hawaii committed to maintaining a steady supply of paper products for local families, businesses, and hospitality customers during one of the most uncertain periods in recent history.

That commitment to dependable supply continues to guide our company today.

Why Bamboo?

As we searched for better paper products, bamboo quickly stood out.

Bamboo fiber produces paper that is naturally soft, durable, and absorbent while coming from a rapidly renewable resource. These qualities made it an ideal choice for products people use every day, including bath tissue, facial tissue, paper towels, and napkins.

Today, many hospitality businesses, offices, restaurants, and families also appreciate bamboo paper products because they are PFAS-free, providing an alternative for customers seeking paper products without intentionally added PFAS.

 

Expanding into Eco-Friendly Food Service

As Hawaii continued adopting alternatives to certain single-use plastics, customer demand for eco-conscious food service products continued to grow.

Abide Hawaii expanded its product line to include bamboo products, plant fiber tableware, paper cups, paper straws, wooden utensils, take-out containers, and a wide range of food service essentials that support restaurants, hotels, cafés, retailers, and commercial businesses throughout Hawaii.

As more customers placed their trust in Abide Hawaii, they began asking us for more than food service products.

OUR FOUNDER'S STORY

A Humble Beginning

It was a humble beginning for Jenny Wang, the founder of Abide Hawaii.

Born and raised in a small village in southern China, Jenny grew up watching her father operate a tropical fruit business. Although the business was modest, it inspired her entrepreneurial spirit from an early age and planted the dream of building a business of her own.

A Life-Changing Opportunity

Jenny later attended a women's college in China, majoring in English.

During her studies, one of her American professors from California became both her mentor and lifelong supporter. Jenny often refers to her as her "American Mom," whose encouragement, guidance, and financial assistance made it possible for Jenny to continue her education in the United States.

Her kindness helped shape Jenny's future and strengthened her belief in giving back through meaningful relationships.

Learning Through Experience

After graduating, Jenny returned to China and spent several years working closely with manufacturers, learning product development, quality control, sourcing, and international supply chain management.

She later returned to the United States, where she was honored to serve as a Research Fellow at Harvard University before pursuing her dream of building a business that could serve Hawaii.

Building a Reliable Supply Chain

Drawing on years of manufacturing experience and global supplier relationships, Jenny established a diversified supply chain spanning multiple countries and trusted manufacturing partners.

This international network allows Abide Hawaii to maintain dependable inventory, consistent product quality, and reliable product availability—helping customers avoid the supply challenges that inspired the company's founding.

Outside of work, Jenny enjoys spending time with her husband and two children. Her family continues to inspire the values that guide both her life and the future of Abide Hawaii.
